​​Prevention Specialist (Part-Time)

Job Description:

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients and staff members in a manner that is respectful and empowering.
  • Consistent and dependable attendance.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings, program meetings, and trainings.
  • Present a professional demeanor to the community through appearance, communication and presentation.

Essential Functions

  • Provide information on primary prevention including, but not limited to, the Boys Run program, the Coaching Boys Into Men program, the Girls On The Run program, and Community Green Dot to community partners and youth in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
  • Increase Capacity for prevention programming: developing partnerships with key identified community partners and prevention allies to implement primary prevention programming in Fairbanks North Star Borough and outlying areas.
  • Participate in community primary prevention initiatives such as Green Dot, Fairbanks Prevention coalition and the Domestic Violence Prevention Team.
  • Work with community groups to participate in events such as health fairs, Choose Respect Rally, and Take Back The Night to increase awareness of prevention of domestic violence, sexual assault, and teen dating violence.
  • Actively participate in and provide administrative support for the Interior Prevention Alliance to include working on the development of an updated Prevention plan.
  • Assist in the evaluation of community initiatives and prevention programs.
  • Provide information on the services and programs IAC provides to community groups and organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in human services, child development, education, or closely related field. Job, or school experience may be used in lieu of the degree.
  • Commitment to agency’s mission and goals.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles.
  • Proficient with computers and ability to do data entry
  • Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and and understanding of Alaska culture, lifestyle and life in rural Alaska.
  • Valid Alaska drivers license.
  • Ability to travel by plane, boat, or car for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to pass background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, child development, education or closely related field.
  • Two years demonstrated work experience working with children, teaching, community education.
  • Prior experience working with domestic violence victims or perpetrators.


Supervision: Directly responsible to the Prevention Coordinator

Hours: Flexible schedule, 20 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Beginning Wage: Range 17 Non-exempt.
