Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at 907-452-2293 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Sexual Abuse happens when one person chooses to leverage their power over another person through sexual contact, or sexual harassment.

Domestic Violence is a long-term pattern of power and control techniques in an intimate relationship, which may include psychological, emotional, economic, sexual, physical and legal abuse, designed to intimidate and/or isolate the person.

Human Trafficking is the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel a person into commercial sex acts or labor services against their will. In situations where minors are involved in commercial sex, it is still considered trafficking whether or not force, fraud or coercion are present.

Two people who are  16 or older may consent to have sexual relations with each other. When one person is under the age of 16 Alaska Law will look at the difference in age to determine whether the younger party can consent. Alaska Law will also consider relationships with natural power dynamics, ie: a 16 year old and a teacher, as sexual abuse of a minor.

Consent happens when both parties involved agree enthusiastically, every step of the way through sexual contact. Consent is freely given, reversible, enthusiastic, informed and specific.

IAC's hotline and Advocates can provide support and resources to anyone experiencing DV, SA, and/or Human Trafficking. Contact our hotline 907-452-2293 anytime for support.  IAC's Prevention team can provide further education to community partners and members. We can create presentations specific to the educational need you request.
