Education and Outreach

The Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IAC) prevention program provides presentations, handouts, training, and other opportunities for community education and outreach. To request the help of prevention staff for any of these opportunities, email preventiondirector@iacnvl.org or call 907-799-5075.

Presentations and Events

The prevention program has a healthy relationships presentation designed for middle and high school health classes as well as a direct service training. The direct service training covers a set of practices for responding to a person who discloses intimate partner violence, suicidal ideation, or another trauma to someone working in a professional capacity. It is ideal for a range of service fields including youth programs, education, and ministry.

The prevention program can also appear at events and on panels that address violence prevention and mental health & wellness. Previous appearances by prevention staff include

  • A Victim-Blaming Panel hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks
  • A Woman's Affair
  • The Tanana Valley State Fair
  • The Go Winter! Expo
  • A Mental Health round table hosted by Tanana Middle School
  • Galena Street Fair
  • A Choose Respect panel hosted by the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

The Prevention Team can facilitate trainings that can be customized to you or your agencies specific needs. Previous trainings include

  • Sexual Assault awareness and prevention for select military partners
  • Technical Domestic Violence training for community partners
  • Youth oriented awareness and prevention trainings
  • Community bystander intervention trainings
  • ...and more based on the needs of our community!

Media

Prevention staff can also provide media appearances that include podcast or radio interviews. Past appearances include

  • Health Talk  with Dr. Scott Luper
  • Magic 101.1 with Rocky Barnette
