Fairbanks Prevention Alliance

A Community Working Together to Create a Safe Fairbanks

The Fairbanks Prevention Alliance's vision is a community free of sexual assault and intimate partner violence, achieved through community involvement. The Fairbanks Prevention Alliance was formed in 2012, and consists of community partners with a shared interest in the prevention of  domestic and sexual violence in the Fairbanks region.

The Fairbanks Prevention Alliance includes diverse representation from community partners including, but not limited to, the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living, Fairbanks Public Health, Fairbanks Native Association, Fort Wainwright Sexual Harassment/Assault Response Prevention program (SHARP) and Family Advocacy Program, LEAP, Presbyterian Hospitality House, Planned Parenthood, Thrivalaska, University of Alaska Nanook Diversity and Action Center, Alaska Court System, University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Alaska 4-H Program, Healing Native Hearts, Resource Center for Parents and Children (RCPC) Stevie's Place, and the Interior Aids Association.

What are we doing?

The Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IACNVL) received funding in 2017 for a comprehensive needs assessment of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB). This included the collection and analysis of both primary and secondary data sources to better understand the needs of the Fairbanks community and surrounding areas for the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Based on the data collected with assistance from the Goldstream Group, the FPA developed a comprehensive, community level, strategic plan.

From this strategic plan we work together to address five factors identified that impact the prevention of domestic violence, sexual assault, and teen dating violence in the Fairbanks North Star Borough:

  • Lack of Knowledge and Understanding about the Issues in the Community.
  • Lack of Active Support and Ownership of the Issues in the Community.
  • Barriers to Participation in Prevention in the Community.
  • Stigma Related to the Issues in the Community.
  • A Need to Develop Resilience in the Younger Generation.

Want to be involved?

All are welcome to the table; we value your voice. Meetings are typically the last Wednesday of the month at noon over Zoom.

For meeting information, please contact: preventiondirector@iacnvl.org

The FPA's guiding documents, the Community Readiness Assessment, and the Strategic Plan are linked below. An external evaluator, the Goldstream Group, collects secondary and survey data to create a biannual Community Readiness Assessment (CRA). The CRA informs the FPA's strategic planning committee as they develop the alliance's goals and action steps.
